Our history

1952

Mr Lambert Frankinet, the founder

In 1952, Lambert Frankinet created and installed a first mineral mixer. The installation is completed by the start-up of a vertical mixer for the production of protein concentrates based on dried brewer’s yeast, pressure cake from oilseeds and sugar by-products. The ALFRA company, a contraction of ALiment and Frankinet, was born.

1955

The 50s

Quickly the jeep and the trailer of the first days will be replaced by a Hanomag truck in order to deliver a clientele of breeders and manufacturers of feed for the cattle more and more extensive in the territories of Condroz, Ardennes and La Hesbaye.

1965

Installation on the Horion-Hozémont site

In 1965, it was expropriation following the construction of the E42 motorway. The ALFRA company moved to the current Horion-Hozémont site and took the opportunity to acquire a new manufacturing facility in a 500 m² hall.

1971

Development of a farm sales network

From 1971, André, the eldest son of Lambert Frankinet, developed a direct sales network for ALFRA products on farms and provided technical support for animal feed. The clientele then spread to Brabant and Hainaut.

1975

Towards a modernization of the company

In 1975, Lambert Frankinet retired and gave way to his second son, Michel, who would take care of the administration and the actual manufacturing. Contacts on farms are more and more oriented towards the breeding of cow and dairy cattle. In the early 80s, IT entered society for accounting management. The first internally developed cattle and swine rationing calculation program is launched.

'80-'90

The team is growing

After Mr. Grymonprez in 1974 and Mr. Landrieu, it is the turn of Benoit Royen then Dominique Delefortrie to come and strengthen the team to supervise clients in Wallonia, Flanders, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and in the North of France. The 1990s were devoted to the development of feed management programs and the improvement of cattle production performance.

2001

New premises & tools

In 2001, a second hall of 500 m² doubled the storage capacity. Pierre Frankinet, André’s son, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, joins his father and uncle. It endeavors to develop the tools necessary for the diagnosis of metabolic diseases, the management and the adaptation of feeding strategies to ensure good zootechnical and economic performance. Since 2003, ALFRA adheres to the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) quality system.

2008

Diversification and quality

In 2008, the establishment of a new production line combining technical innovation and pharmaceutical-type quality increased capacity, product quality and working comfort for our staff. During that same year, Pierre’s wife, also a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, set up the HORSE NUTRITION PROJECT: a concept for supervising the nutrition of horses (for leisure and sport) based on an innovative range of nutritional suppléments.

2010

Strengthening teams

ALFRA is hiring an employee specially dedicated to the French market: Mr Laurent Savary. A few years later, Dr Alexandre Lebrun also joined the team. Unfortunately, Michel Frankinet will leave his post prematurely and it is the wife of Pierre le Dr Natacha Duquesnoy who resumes his duties.
